Terrorism Terrorism has been the source that has not only changed America but the world as well because of what it brings. The definition of Terrorism is that it’s intentionally used to threaten and displays violence against civilians and military forces to try and achieve political goals. This is a very unlawful tactic that is used by terrorist to cause fear for the purpose of getting their demands or achieving their goals. In no way shape or form is terrorism accepted in civilized parts of the world. It is also defined as a criminal act according to United Nations Security Council Resolution and is punishable to the fullest extent of law. Terrorism is use by small groups who lack the size and skills that most of the world’s militaries poses like the United States, England, China, and Russia. The most notorious of the terrorist groups in the world is the Al-Qaeda. The Al-Qaeda is an Islamist group believed to be founded between 1988 and late 1989. They operate as a network comprising both a multinational, stateless arm, and a fundamentalist Sunni movement calling for a vanguard of the strong or as they say “al-qaeda al-sulbah”.
The most notable attack that the Al-Qaeda has ever done was the infamous terrorist attacks on the world trade center on September the 11, 2001. That event was the one that would change America forever in the 21st century. Through this attack the United States came together and went to war with the Al-Qaeda and put them in their place. “Tonight, we are a country awakened to danger and called to defend freedom. Our grief has turned to anger and anger to resolution. Whether we bring our enemies to justice or bring justice to our enemies, justice will be done” (George W. Bush). But this isn’t a new form or tactic that the Al-Qaeda just made up, this has been used repeatedly in the past. Throughout the history of mankind there have always been acts of terrorism in almost in every time period. One big difference has been that over time terrorism has adapted and been seen differently. Our founding fathers, whom I personally look up to and admire, technically could have been considered terrorist for their actions against the British. But their motives were for freedom from a tyrant king and from religious persecution, and not by killing innocent civilians. The men who fought against the Mexicans could have also been considered terrorist in the battle of the Alamo. I by no means am pro terrorist. I can’t stand how cowardly terrorist are and I do not support any of the terrorists from the Middle East or any terrorist who attacks innocent civilians. I’m just saying none of them better get in my face ‘cause I’ll drop them like a bad habit.
Terrorism is a modern day problem that seems to have gotten out of hand in the past thirty years. As a result of the terrorist attacks on the world trade center, the United States went to war and vowed to put an end to terrorism. The war on terrorism led to the war with Afghanistan in which it was the United States destiny to come out victorious. The United States Armed Forces adapted to a new kind of warfare and proved to be superior to the insurgent and their unorthodox style of warfare. This war has gone on for nearly ten years and has had an upside to it. Ever since the war began and to this day, there hasn’t been a terrorist attack on the same scale we saw nearly ten years ago. There is no doubt that this war is working and heading in the right direction, but the only thing that people must understand is that this isn’t going to take place just over night. This kind of warfare is a long process in which patience is necessary in order to come out victorious. ‘We will come together to give law enforcement the additional tools it needs to track down terror here at home. We will come together to strengthen our intelligence capabilities to know the plans of terrorists before they act and to find them before they strike’ (George W Bush).
The United States must strengthen it policies on terrorism and adapted to evolving terrorism both worldwide and abroad. In order to help America have an advantage on the war on terrorism our nation’s borders must be strengthen. We must regulate the skies and make it a lot more difficult for people from other countries to come to America. The fact of the matter is that we are way too vulnerable in too many parts and we must address as many as possible. In order to gain an edge on terrorist our law enforcement must be at least a step ahead of the terrorist or on the same page. It seems as if we’re asking too much from not only are military and law enforcement but from are citizens as well, this is what’s necessary for us to be successful and thrive.
The United States and her allies will no doubt be locked in a war with terrorism for many years to come. It’s necessary for our government and military to lead the way and show the world that terrorism can be controlled. Quite possibly someday we might be able to get past this dark form of violence and progress humans. I completely believe that once we can get terrorism under control or even have the leaders in prison that the world could truly be a safer place for us all. The only problem this that once we take care of terrorism, another problem will rise and create a greater and more complex threat. This problem will not go away within the next few years, it may take a decade and we must strengthen our policies on terrorism and have the support of our nation behind us as we guide and show the rest of the world the light to a more prospers way of life.
